Desculpem o atraso a traduzir isto... Mas este mês tem sido corrido porque vou trocar de emprego e de região de Portugal e tive que resolver uma carrada de assuntos e não tive tempo, nem cabeça, para traduzir a Newsletter de Dezembro até agora...
Mas isso acaba hoje!!!
Já a tenho aqui! A Newsletter de Dezembro saiu na mesma semana que a versão original do Blood Vow (Jura de Sangue - saiu em inglês no passado dia 6 de Dezembro) que eu estou a ler e que vou ver se consigo começar a traduzir alguns excertos para vocês. ;)
Nightshade, lembras-te da ideia que me deste que comunicar a minha teoria à Ward? Pois bem... deixei-lhe mensagem no chat do FB e não obtive resposta!!! T.T (Não tinha outra maneira de deixar recado, por isso deixei aqui. xD)
Agora vamos ao motivo deste post!

Quando escreves uma série ao longo de dez ou onze anos, tu mudas e evoluis
como escritor. É inevitável… tornas-te melhor a escrever (ou pelo menos esperas
que sim), gravitas em direção a diferentes gradientes e ângulos nas histórias,
e personagens diferentes chegam-se à frente e exigem tempo de antena. A série
da Irmandade da Adaga Negra é aquela pela qual eu sou mais conhecida como
escritora, e eu estou muito orgulhosa da maneira como os livros começaram como
o tradicional romance paranormal mas maturaram numa mistura de romance e ficção
geral.
Contudo, ainda com presas. E couro preto.
Os primeiros três livros da série, Na
Sombra da Noite (Dark Lover), Na Sombra do Dragão (Lover Eternal), e Na
Sombra do Pecado (Lover Awakened),
focam-se primeiramente no herói e na heroína e na viagem deles para trabalharem
juntos e ultrapassarem os obstáculos para chegar ao seu verdadeiro amor. Eu
amei escrever esses livros. Estava a tentar desvendar quem eu era como autora,
ainda a tentar habituar-me ao planeamento da história, e, no geral, a esticar
as minhas asas. Estava aterrorizada, e exaltada, e então as pessoas encontraram
os livros e eu fiquei espantada.
E depois aconteceu o Na Sombra do
Desejo (Lover Revealed). Butch O’Neal, o polícia humano que na
verdade era mestiço, trouxe com a sua história a Profecia do Dhestroyer, e, de repente, uma nova construção do
mundo começou a aparecer na série. Cada livro ainda estava centrado na história
amorosa, mas à medida que a história continuava, o que se estava a passar em Caldwell, Nova Iorque e na comunidade vampírica
e no trono do Wrath começou a
apresentar conflitos externos para igualar o romance principal. Como a autora da
história, isto era excitante e muito divertido de escrever, mas alguns
escritores sentiam falta dos bons velhos tempos.
Bem-vindos ao Legado IAN! Os livros do Legado são um spin-off (livros paralelos) da série maior IAN, e eles são os
tradicionais romances paranormais. Centrados na nova colheita de recrutas que
irão ajudar na guerra, as histórias passam-se no centro de treino da IAN e no terreno
enquanto as fêmeas e os machos que estão a aprender a lutar se apaixonam. Adoro
escrever histórias de amor, e os livros do Legado são focados no herói e na heroína
a encontrarem o seu caminho juntos: apesar das histórias serem no mundo da Irmandade,
o foco é nas relações e nos altos e baixos que acontecem a caminho do FPS
(Felizes Para Sempre).
Mas há mais! A outra coisa que os livros do Legado fazem é oferecer aos
leitores a oportunidade de ver os seus Irmãos favoritos em Acão mais uma vez. E
à medida que a série da IAN continua, há tantas pessoas amadas nos livros, mas
não há espaço suficientes nas páginas para deixar que o pessoal tenha novidades
e revisitar antigos heróis e heroínas. Nas ofertas do Legado, a Irmandade
trabalha com os recrutas e isto fornece uma grande vitrina para trazer o Rhage, o Zsadist, o Butch, o V e o Phury, e os outros, de volta à ribalta.
Eu quero, mesmo, ter uma longa carreira no mercado editorial, e a maneira
para fazer isso, eu acho (eu espero), é eu desafiar-me constantemente e
adaptar-me. O que eu adoro relativamente à combinação dos livros da IAN e a
série do Legado IAN é que sou capaz de oferecer duas diferentes sombras do
mundo vampírico. Eu quero fazer os leitores felizes, e corresponder às
necessidades das pessoas que são tão leais e solidárias com os meus livros, e
acredito que estas duas séries fazem-no, e não é uma situação de “um ou o outro”.
O que descobri é que o pessoal colaram-se a ambas as séries e isso é mesmo
muito gratificante e excitante!
Para além disso, em ambos, recebem presas. E couro preto.

When you write a series over the course of ten or eleven years, you change and evolve as a writer. It’s inevitable—you get better at writing (or at least you hope you do), you gravitate toward different slants and angles in stories, and different characters come forward and demand air time. The Black Dagger Brotherhood series is the thing I’m most known for as a writer, and I’m really proud of the way the books started as traditional paranormal romance, but have matured into a mix of romance and general fiction combined.
Still with fangs, though. And black leathers.
The first three books in the series, Dark Lover, Lover Eternal, and Lover Awakened, are focused primarily on the hero and heroine and their journey to work together and overcome the obstacles to their true love. I loved writing these books. I was trying to figure out who I was an author, getting my sea legs under me when it came to plotting, and generally just stretching my wings. I was terrified, and I was exhilarated, and then people found the books, and I was astounded.
And then Lover Revealed happened. Butch O’Neal, the human cop who turned out to be a half breed, brought with his story the Dhestroyer Prophecy, and suddenly, world building began to come forward in the series. Each book was still about a central love story, but as the stories continued, what was going on in Caldwell, NY and the vampire community and Wrath’s throne began to present external conflicts to equal the main romance. As the author, this was exciting and super fun to write, but some readers missed the good old days.
Welcome to the BDB Legacy! The Legacy books are a spin off of the larger BDB series, and they are traditional paranormal romance. Centering on the new crop of trainees that is coming in to help with the war, the stories take place in the BDB training center and also out in the field as the males and females who are learning to fight fall in love. I love writing love stories, and the Legacy books are really about a hero and a heroine finding their way together: although the stories are in the world of the Brotherhood, the focus is on a relationship and all the ups and downs that take place on the way to an HEA.
But there’s more! The other thing that the Legacy books do is give readers a chance to see their favorite Brothers in action once again. As the BDB series continues, there are so many beloved people in the books, but not enough page space to let folks get updates and revisit former heroes and heroines. In the Legacy offerings, the Brotherhood works with the trainees and this provides a great showcase to bring Rhage, Zsadist, Butch, V and Phury, and the others, back in view.
I really want to have a long career in publishing, and the way to do that, I think (I hope), is to constantly challenge myself and adapt. What I love about the combination of the BDB books and the BDB Legacy series is that I’m able to offer two different shadings on the vampire world. I want to make readers happy, and meet the needs of the people who are so loyal and supportive of my books, and I believe these two series does that- and it isn’t an either/or situation. What I’ve found is that folks have hopped on both sets of books and this is really gratifying and exciting!
Plus, in both, you get fangs. And black leathers.

In closing, I just really want to thank everyone for their support! Without my readers putting their hard earned money where it counts, I wouldn’t be able to do what I love for a living. And now, I have to outline the next BDB book—see you in between the pages!
